Has the Conservatory Had its Day? asked a recent national newspaper article. In Wellington the answer seems to be a resounding Yes.
At the June town council planning meeting there were no less than three applications to demolish a conservatory and replace it with a conventional brick-built home extension.
“We come across an awful lot of conservatories that are freezing cold in winter and boiling hot in summer and, as a result, have become white elephants which are attached to houses but which no one ever goes into,” says James Hogg, managing director of Roof Revive, a company that tries to make conservatories usable.
