Sad times this week for the African Corner. The shop closes on Saturday and Wellington says farewell (hopefully temporary) to one of the town’s most distinctive businesses.
Nikki And Brett Gillespie opened their doors almost three years ago, selling food and drink from all over southern Africa to nostalgic expats. They now have hundreds of loyal customers who travel from all over the South West for delicacies such as biltong and Castle lager.
“It’s such a shame but we had a temporary lease and now the owners want the building vacant to allow Wetherspoons to develop their new pub,” said Nikki. “We’ve looked hard in Wellington but there are very few affordable empty shops at the moment.”
