Last night the King’s Arms served its final pint. By Monday morning the signage was gone from the building, the windows curtained and doors firmly locked.
Despite the pub being popular with young people and always busy at weekends, it was said by the licensees to be not making any money.
Four Wellington skittle teams are now homeless; Royals, Dragonflies, Ladybirds and Queen’s Legs.
From a dozen active pubs five years ago the town is now down to just five; The Dolphin, Vintage, Victoria, Barley Mow & Cottage.
However, the refurbished Green Dragon in South St is due to re-open in six weeks time and the long-awaited Wetherspoons pub in the Old Town Hall by the end of the year.
Another one bites the dust
I think there’s more to this story , then people are letting on or saying , something clearly isn’t right about this pub not making money on drinks .
