A fund has been set up to support a mother and her young son who lost everything in a fire at Holyoake Street on Tuesday morning.
Crews from four stations attended the blaze and it was stated afterwards that the flat involved had suffered “100% damage.”
The mother works for Prestige Commercial and Domestic Cleaning which has now launched a GoFundMe page.
It says: “One of our team members and her young son lost their entire home when a devastating fire tore through their flat in Wellington.
“By sheer luck, they were not at home when the fire started, and for that we are endlessly thankful.
“They are alive, they are together, and that is the most important thing. But in a matter of moments, everything else was gone.
“Their home, their belongings, their memories, their son’s possessions, the little things that made life feel normal and safe all destroyed. They have been left with nothing but the clothes they were wearing.
“As an employer, colleague, and friend, it is heartbreaking to watch someone you care about go through this.
“No one ever imagines they will wake up one day and suddenly have nowhere to go back to and nothing left to call their own.
“This is where our community can make a difference. Wellington has always been a place where people come together when someone is in need, and right now this family needs us more than ever.
“Every donation, no matter how small, will help them take the first steps towards rebuilding their lives.
“It will help provide essentials such as clothing, toiletries, bedding, food, school items, and the everyday necessities that most of us never have to think twice about.
“We know that no amount of money can replace what has been lost. It cannot bring back their home, their possessions, or the memories tied to them.
“But it can help ease the overwhelming pressure they are facing right now and remind them that they are not alone.
