Congratulations to Wellington Town Council on winning TWO prestigious awards yesterday (Thursday).
At the annual Somerset Parishes Conference, the Somerset Association of Local Councils presented its Star Council Awards for the first time.
Our town council was named the winner of two out of six categories – Large Council of the Year and Project of the Year for the Kings Arms Community Hub.
A spokesperson said: “The council was recognised as standing apart and raising the bar for the sector with outstanding work across service delivery, service impact, community engagement, partnerships, and collaborative working.
“The Kings Arms Community Hub as a project was recognised to show a measurable and sustainable positive impact on the local community.
“The Kings Arms directly addresses gaps in the needs of the community and its work in early intervention makes it forward-thinking and sustainable.”
Mayor Mark Lithgow added: “I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that Wellington Town Council won two of six awards.
“But I was only surprised because I was unaware these awards were happening – I am not surprised that we were awarded them.
“I am deeply honoured to be Mayor of our town and want to thank the people who work and volunteer to make Wellington the great place to live that it is.
“Also, well done to the councillors who have the best interests of Wellington at their hearts.
“There will be elections next year and if anyone is interested in being part of a dynamic and award-winning council, please contact us to find out how you can stand for election.”
