Wellington Bowling Club welcomed six teams of four from Victoria Bowling Club, Weston-super-Mare.
An all-rink friendly battle between two competitive bowling clubs was eventually won by the hosts.
On the first rink, June Anderson, Geoff Stamp, Monica Carter and skip Pete Nichols were chasing the game early on but, by the halfway point, they had drawn level on ten shots each.
However, the Weston foursome won most of the remaining ends to take victory, 20 – 13.
The game on the second rink was also closely fought. Weston’s Victoria team picked up a big lead early on.
They led 14–4 after eight ends but Brian Wombwell, Diana Dagg, Derek Vile and skip Jay Merrell gradually came back and, with one to play, they led by one. The Weston foursome collected one shot in the last to draw the game, 17-all.
On rink three, almost exactly the same thing happened – but the other way round. Liz May, Arthur Carter, Ed Dilley and skip Graham Brown were one shot down 19–18, with one to play.
This time it was the Wellington four who managed a single shot which gave them a 19–19 draw.
Janet Lovell, David Dagg, Pete White and skip Tony Gibson put up a good fight but lost by just two shots 17–15.
Janet Moore, Ian Stewart, Bill Warnett and skip Henry Richbell were 7–5 down early on but they gradually caught up and overtook for a good victory 15 – 11.
The heroes of the the day for Wellington were Tracey Richbell, Bernard Barnes, Alan May and skip David Beaudet who cruised to a comfortable win by 22 shots to seven, giving Wellington overall victory by 103 shots to 89.
