Kingsmead School welcomed a number of representatives from a variety of occupations to their Year 8 Careers Day. Representatives from Engineering, Teaching, Armed Forces, Environment Agency, Social Care, Law, Finance and IT spoke to students about what their jobs entail, the qualifications needed, the types of salaries and career paths that could be expected. Local colleges were also present to explain the types of courses they offer for 16 year olds.
The Careers Day is timed to help focus the twelve and thirteen year old students as they prepare to consider their GCSE option choices later this year. Head of Applied Learning Charlie Pierce said how it is “crucial that the students learn about a number of areas and careers so that they can make informed choices about their futures”.
Peter Radford from the Institute of Civil Engineers commented “The day was great fun with good questions and interest from the students.”
