The second night of Wellington Rugby Club’s 150th Anniversary Gala Weekend saw the marquee taken over by a Charity Dinner in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity, organised by Trish Acton – current Club Person of the Year and 1st XV physio, writes Dave Farrow.
More than 200 people attended the event and were welcomed by the Taunton Ukulele Strummers.
There then followed an evening of great food – deli platters from Olive and Rosy, a hog roast courtesy of Bishops Hull Butchers and cakes by Zoe Wadham – and fantastic entertainment.
Guest were able to take part in games of Irish Bingo, Hobby Horse Racing and a raffle before Las Torders took to the stage to round the evening off with the best part of two hours of outstanding music which you just had get up and dance to and, on occasion, sing along as well.
Many people, who should have known better, couldn’t resist busting some moves to the music and probably felt a bit sore the following day!
Trish said afterwards: “Thank you so much to everyone who came along and joined in and made it such a fantastic evening.
“We raised in the region of £5,000 for the Bran Tumour Charity which is very close to my heart having had a brain tumour myself a few years ago.
“Thanks in particular to the amazing Caroline Davey and her bar staff for all their support and the volunteer waiters drawn from the clubs under 15s team and various friends and family who did a great job in making the evening run smoothly.
“Thanks also to Russell Baker who compered the evening and his team who did a great job in getting people to part with their cash!
“Finally, a huge thank you to the rugby club who allowed us to use the marquee at no cost.”
