After a distastrous weekend for sport a week ago, both major Wellington teams are at home today for key matches.
The rugby club’s 1st XV entertain Bideford, a strong side placed second in the league table with only two losses from ten matches. With a young and relatively inexperienced side Welly will do well to hold the Devon side. However, a dry sunny day could help promote a fast-running match.
The football club are set fair for this weekend when Hengrove Athletic are the visitors to the Playing Field for a 3pm kick-off. Hengrove took over from Chard as leaders of the Toolstation League’s first division after their 4-0 home win over Corsham Town on Wednesday night.
But Wellington boss Jamie Ward said this week that his side have nothing to fear against their title-chasing opposition. Ward has completely re-vamped the squad since taking over from Colin Merrick and has seen his new charges draw their past three league matches – two of them against sides in the top four.
Jamie is confident that Wellington will soon be off the bottom and climbing up further up the table.
