Taunton Athletic Club are pleased to be once again hosting the popular Wellington Monument Race on Sunday, December 13th – and entries are now open.
The race, on a slightly modified course this year, is just over 10k, with an elevation of 1090 metres.
Starting at 10am from the Catherine Wheel pub in Hemyock village square, the route then climbs to and circles the Monument, returning along the same road to finish this year at Hemyock Parish Hall, after a lap of the field.
There is a steep road ascent from the village of Hemyock up to the Monument, where there is one mile of firm stone track across National Trust land followed by a steep road descent.
This is a hilly, scenic, rural course, which is on a mixture of roads and off-road tracks. Unfortunately, the hilly route makes the race unsuitable for wheelchairs.
The Monument the half way point of the race, before returning to the finish at Hemyock Parish Hall, where a finisher award and festive, non-alcoholic mulled wine and mince pies will be waiting for all runners.
Once again, chip timing will ne used.
A good range of refreshments will be available both before and after the race.
Toilets are available, but there are no shower facilities. Parking will be at the nearby Hemyock Football Club, Longmead Park, EX15 3SG.
