This year’s eagerly awaited Wellington Carnival is less than two weeks away – and the fun fair’s also in town from this Thursday.
Thousands of people will line the streets on Saturday week, September 28th with the procession leaving Rockwell Green at 7.30pm.
As the entries line up, there will be a two-minute silence at 7pm to remember Carnival stalwart Josephine Chave, culminating in two firework rockets being let off.
The Carnival Committee says: “If you are considering where to watch the parade, the quietest part of the route is from the Youth Centre to the bottom of Champford Lane.
“We hope you enjoy the entertainment, and please give generously to the collection – either into the official collecting buckets or the collecting trailers.
“This year, collectors will be wearing official armbands and using sealed green collecting buckets (pictured)- with the exception of the Fire Service who, by tradition collect, in large black buckets.
“If you want to buy food from one of the catering units in town, make sure they have an Authorised Catering Sign as these are the only ones authorised to trade at our Carnival.
“And, finally, enjoy the night – eat drink and be merry, but please take your rubbish home or plastic glasses back into the pub they came from. Thank you.”
FUN FAIR
The fair has started rolling into Rockwell Green and will be here until the parade night.
It will be open from Thursday to Sunday this week and Thursday to Saturday next week.
The fair will open at 6pm on weekdays, 2pm on the two Saturdays and from 2pm until 6pm on the Sunday.
CARNIVAL MOTOR SHOW
The Carnival Day Motor Show, which launched so successfully last year, will again be taking place in the car park of the Conservative Club.
There will be more than 50 vehicles on display from a 1929 Excelsior Motor Bike, through to a Mad Max car and Herbie Beetle right up to the present day with a McLaren Artura supercar.
The show runs from 10am to 3pm and there will be a bar and refreshments available throughout.
SUCCCESSFUL BINGO
The Carnival Committee’s September Bingo was attended by about 100 people and raised just under £1,000 for Carnival funds – many thanks to Wellington Rugby Club for hosting.
The Christmas Bingo is on December 13th at the same venue – doors open 6pm, eyes down 7pm.
