The first seedlings are now being planted on the Wellington Community Farm land at Hilly Head.
Adam Lockyer and his team were finally gifted perfect weather to put the first onion plugs into ground with potatoes to follow. They will be ready for harvesting in August.
The group has been joined by Andreas Hofmeyr who has been employed to work on the farm for two days each week.
The farm – a Community Supported Agriculture and Regenerative Farming initiative – will eventually cover 18 acres of land alongside The Basins, growing produce for the local community, strengthening the food culture in the town and supplying affordable and responsibly grown fruit and vegetables.
The group offers local people a share of the produce in veg boxes which will be available over the summer – later than had been planned because of bad weather. More information about the Spring 2023 Crop Share Offer can be found by CLICKING HERE.
Alongside food production the group aims to involve local schools in the process.
Adam said: ”We are looking for people to get involved, so whether you want to invest financially, volunteer, would be interested in a veg box or just want more information, please get in touch.”
