It’s been “a momentous day” for Wellington Town Council with two ribbon cutting ceremonies to mark its continued development.
The first took place to open its new reception area on the ground floor of the council offices in Fore Street.
Shortly afterwards, a similar ceremony was held in Wellington Park in recognition of the council taking over responsibility for all of the town’s open spaces from Somerset Council.

The revamped offices follow the purchase of 30 Fore Street by the council last year.
The new area, which is more prominent and accessible to all, replaces the previous reception on the first floor of 28 Fore Street.
Deputy Mayor, Cllr Catherine Govier-Wiggins, who performed the ribbon cutting, said: “Today is a momentous day for Wellington Town Council and one of the biggest in its history.
“We are excited to be more accessible to the community and welcome members of the public to come to us if they have any queries or concerns the town council can help with.”
The reception is staffed by two receptionists – working on a job share basis – and also housed in the downstairs space are the Facilities Manager, Annette Kirk, and Project Assistant, Rebecca Hunt.
The reception will be open weekdays from 9am-4pm.

Cllr Govier also cut a ribbon in the park to mark the town council taking over ownership and responsibility for the management of all the green spaces in the town from Somerset Council.
She said: “We are determined to be more responsive in dealing with issues affecting the green spaces and to keep the town looking smart.
We want to welcome our new staff and thank them and our existing staff for all their hard work to get us to this point.
We’re already seeing positive changes across the town like improvements in the park and we can’t wait to get going with more things which will make the town a better place.
“It’s impossible to mention the park without honouring the Friends of Wellington Park who do so much to make the park what it is and we’re very excited for their spring fayre on 4th May.
