Jess Meale’s fund-raising gig at the rugby club last Saturday contributed over £700 towards her target of £3000 for the Marie Curie cancer fund.
“Please can I use Around Wellington to thank Ryan Hawkings, Best Kept Secret, Smoking Gun, Wellington Rugby Club, all the local businesses/people who donated raffle prizes and of course, everyone who came along,” Jess said. The photo shows her come-back number with Best Kept Secret after a year away from band.
In May next year Jess sets off on an 11-day high-altitude trek through the Himalayas as the final part of the fund-raising. “I’m not a good cyclist or runner, so if I did anything like this it was going to be trekking,” Jess said. “I’ve begun the fitness campaign with a lot of gym work and walking.”
Jess says she been fortunate in having no intensely personal motive to raise funds for Marie Curie, no one close to her has suffered from cancer. “it’s simply that I’m 28 now and doing a major fund-raiser was on my bucket list of things to do before I hit 30,” she said.
