Following the introduction of a loyalty card scheme at Wellington Library, the October prize draw winner has been announced.
Local resident Judith chose a £30 voucher donated by the Cheese and Wine Shop in South Street.
The loyalty card scheme has been introduced by Somerset Libraries as part of National Year of Reading 2026 and Wellington’s Cradle to Career – Reading Town project.
Running for six months, the initiative aims to reward regular library users while encouraging new members to discover the wide range of services and activities available at their local library.
Residents can collect a card from the library’s information desk and earn stamps by borrowing items, attending events or using services such as public computers and wi-fi.
Once ten stamps have been collected, completed cards are entered into a monthly prize draw.
Library users can enter as many completed cards as they wish.
Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and Wellington Town Council, prizes available throughout the scheme include:
- £50 John Lewis voucher
- £30 Cheese and Wine Shop voucher
- £20 Bookshop by the Blackdowns voucher
- Two Wellesley Cinema vouchers
- Coffee #1 Wellington hamper
- Everyone Active family swim voucher for two adults and two children at Wellington Sports Centre
Laura Batcha, the town council’s Community Development Officer, said: “The initiative is a wonderful example of local organisations and businesses working together to encourage reading, learning and community participation.
“Libraries offer so much more than books, providing welcoming spaces where people of all ages can connect, discover new interests and access valuable resources.”
