Thunderbridge Bluegrass Boys have decided to call it a day. Wellington’s best-known and best-loved band will play their final gig next month. After seven years playing locally, nationally and internationally, the four musicians are going their separate ways.
Their last gig is scheduled for 8th December at their old stomping ground, Wellington Arts Centre.
‘Many miles have been travelled, many gigs have been played, we still are, and will remain great friends who have achieved a great deal together. With other commitments increasingly hindering valuable band time, it has been decided that the band needs a break,’ said a sudden announcement on the band’s website. ‘There will always be the possibility that we’ll get together again in the future, but as a great songwriter once said…”A rest is as good as a change”
Nick Girone-Maddocks, guitar and vocals, was first to break the sad news to friends. “I am totally gutted and do not want this to stop, but minds have been made up,” he said.
“A sad day for me – apart from my family, my music is my main love. Thunderbridge was a terrific way of channelling it into something positive that brought many smiles to many faces, especially mine.”
For 2013, Nick will continue to promote his new solo CD ‘Broken Radios’ (have a look at www.nickgm.co.uk) with a new band and Jules will carry on playing bass with various other people (info and links at www.julesbushell.com). Brian will be taking a break from playing live and Martin will be venturing into some other musical projects.

The band wish to pass on their thanks to all the friends and followers they have throughout the UK, and beyond, and for all the support they have been given since their first concert together in 2005.
Tickets for their last show at the Arts Centre are priced £10 each and are strictly limited to 100. In support will be’ Jacey & Dan’, a super acoustic duo up from Cornwall. More information and tickets will be available imminently.
