Lights up on Movie Magic

Fans of some of the best movie music might be advised to book their tickets early for Wellington Operatic Society’s latest cabaret evening, ‘More Movie Music’ which opens at The Arts Centre on 5th November and runs until Saturday 9th.

Rehearsals are well under way for the show which is devised, choreographed and directed by Christina Green who will be remembered for her powerful performance as Nancy in ‘Oliver’ at The Wellesley Cinema in May. According to John Walker, Op Soc’s Press Officer, “Christina is young and bubbling with energy!” This is Christina’s directorial debut but, as she said, “I’ve choreographed shows before so it’s not all entirely new to me.”

The show features more than 40 memorable numbers from famous movies, including hits such as ‘Say a Little Prayer for You’, ‘Voulez-Vous’, ‘Night Fever’ and a ‘Grease Megamix’.

Op Soc has drawn together an experienced cast of 50 singers and dancers – including 18 youngsters – many of whom appeared in the acclaimed production of ‘Oliver’. There are also some familiar faces from Civic Players’ recent rip-roaring production of ‘Calendar Girls’ which, it is believed, broke all records for tickets sold for a production at The Arts Centre, having been completely booked out long before the opening night. With such a strong line-up ‘More Movie Magic’ is almost guaranteed success.

Latest news from Wellington Arts Association: professional choreographer, Gareth Walker, who worked on some of the dance routines for his father John’s production of ‘Oliver’ in May choreographed one of the professional dancers’ routines on BBC1’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ last weekend.
