The annual Autumn Fair in St John’s Church yesterday (Saturday) was a great success, exceeding the fundraising target and fostering community spirit.
The event’s highlight was the special appearance of ‘Malcolm the Magician’ who put on an entertaining show in which he mesmerised the children with his magic skills as well as balloon modelling.
Twelve independent stallholders, selling a wide range of high quality crafts, were also present.
Organiser Sue Rackley said: “Many people were purchasing early Christmas presents and filled the church with a great atmosphere.
“As ever, the cake stall proved very popular with cakes and savoury bakes flying off the table. Apple pie with clotted cream was served up on the busy refreshment stall.”Sue added: “Overall, the event raised £905 towards church funds.
“It costs £2,000 per week to keep St John’s open so regular fundraising is required.
“The church is hosting a Christmas-themed coffee morning on Saturday, 15th November, at 10am in the church hall. Everyone welcome.”
