Wellington Monument was the setting for a perfect romantic moment just before Christmas when a young couple got engaged at the landmark.
Jonny had secretly arranged with the National Trust Monument volunteers to propose to Kylie at the top of the Monument – and she said ‘Yes!’.
Both Jonny and Kylie work for the NHS in Taunton and Kylie had no idea Jonny was going to propose with the Monument lights switched on in recognition of their very special moment.
The National Trust would like to thank them both for their generous donation and offered the thanks of the organisation to all NHS staff for their tireless dedication through the pandemic.
Monument volunteer, John Greenshields who arranged the event, said: “Anyone can book the Monument and its lights in return for a donation towards its upkeep. The lights can be switched on to celebrate special occasions.”
