Sol Gabetta and Sir Simon Rattle, together with the Berlin Philharmonic, come LIVE to the stage at the Wellesley Cinema on Easter Sunday 20th April in a performance from the famous Festispielhaus in Baden-Baden as part of the town’s second Easter Festival. The programme includes György Ligeti’s ‘Atmosphères’, Prelude to Act 1 of Richard Wagner’s opera ‘Lohengrin’, Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85 and ‘Le Sacre du Printemps’ by Igor Stravinsky.
Sol Gabetta (32) is regarded as one of the world’s finest, ‘superstar’ cellists. An Argentine of French and Russian descent who now lives in Switzerland, she has performed with major orchestras and at festivals both as a soloist and with chamber orchestras. She recently released a highly praised recording of Elgar’s Cello Concerto and makes her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in this concert.
The Easter Festival in Baden-Baden is a celebration of the quality of the Berlin Philharmonic, one of the world’s most renowned orchestras. Sir Simon Rattle has been Principal Conductor of the orchestra since 2002.
