Wellington Netball Club is in full swing with its New Year’s resolution to get the sport out to more of our young community this year.
Before Christmas, the club reached out to all the local schools to offer support through either an afternoon introduction to netball, some after-school club sessions, support with their already established after-school club or a combination of all of three.
Wellington Netball have been lucky to secure a grant which, the committee agreed, should be partly used to support local schools without any cost to them and give the children of Wellington access to netball.
A spokesperson said: “We are very excited to be getting more involved in the community and we are pleased to have the support of, not only our amazing youth coach Gracie Stevens for this project but also Jo Templeman who is our local Netball Development Officer from England Netball
“So far, we have had five schools take up our offer and we are currently working out dates and requirements but will hopefully be heading into these schools during Spring/Summer Terms.
“For anyone interested in getting their children into a netball club, we currently have four spaces for our under 11 sessions on a Tuesday and we are proposing a second Junior session to start after February half-term (to be confirmed).
“We are also starting a waiting list for those children who will move into Year 3 in September and would like to join the club.”
