Another exciting season is on the cards in Wellington Ex-Services Skittles League with the action getting under way this week, writes Marc Bright.
The season on Friday with the prestigious Jim Blackmore Champions Cup clash between reigning league champions Holywell Lake and Payne Challenge Cup holders Scuppas.
Hosted at Wellington Football Club, this match should be a great opener as Holywell Lake make their second consecutive appearance, looking to lift the trophy after missing out to Reservists last year.
The action continues the following week with the first round of the Payne Challenge Cup, set to take place on Thursday, August 28th, and Friday, August 29th.
One of the standout ties sees cup holders Scuppas go head-to-head with division rivals Mowers at the Rockwell Green Institute.
Teams knocked out in the opening round will have a second chance of silverware by entering the Ken Bright Cup, joined later by teams eliminated in the second round from matches involving sides who received byes in round one.
League competition gets under way in the first week of September, with teams across both divisions eager to make a strong start.
