Last month Around Wellington published an appreciation of Dr John Cole, a former Wellington GP and by then terminally ill himself. Dr Cole died over the weekend and we have received this message from his daughter Alison:
“Very sadly, my dear father, Dr John Cole, passed peacefully away in the early hours of this morning. He was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease early in March 2012 and has bravely managed his illness to the end. For those who know him, and I know there are many in Wellington and the surrounding area, he will be remembered for his unfailing commitment to his work, the local community and his love of music, friends and family. Dad remained positive and true to himself right to the end. His sense of humour and love of life has been an inspiration to all of those who were lucky to know him. He will be hugely missed by us all.”
Arrangements for Dr Cole’s funeral will be published here later in the week.
He was a very kind man and very much liked by our family.
My lasting memory of him will be seeing him again at his house with a Springer Spaniel which he had bought from us when it was very young.
R.I.P. Dr. Cole. You’ll be missed by many I’m sure.
I was so very sad to hear of the passing of Dr Cole, he was my Doctor for all his years in Wellington, also he was the family Doctor for my Great Grandfather, Grandfather, Grandmother, Father, Mother, Brother, Nephew and Niece. He was such a wonderful, kind and sympathetic Gentleman M.D. I offer sincere condolences to his Family, from myself and on behalf of my Family with thanks for all he did for us over so many years. I hadn’t realised that Dr Cole had a book available and my Mum and Stepdad bought Resolution for me this xmas, I am about to read it as I have just finished a Johnny Kingdom book I started before xmas. He will be sadly missed and mourned by all who knew him but he will always be remembered with great affection and admiration. Thank You Dr Cole, R.I.P.
