Wellington High Street has gained a bit of extra sparkle now that G J Jamieson Jewellers has relocated from Lancer Court.
Owner Graham Jamieson and Manager Lorna Rayfield have taken over one of the town’s most iconic shops – one with a recent and varied history as Samuel’s Fish Shop, Let’s Go Travel and Apsleys Insurance offices.
Now there are twinkly lights reflected in bright show cases displaying jewelry, clocks, watches, silver photo frames, special occasion gifts decorative items, all eye-catching and attractive in the centre of the town.
Graham and Lorna had been in Lancer Court for eight years and, in Lorna’s words, “needed to expand”. She said, “We had outgrown the premises and had been looking for a suitable shop in the High Street for a while. When this became vacant we didn’t hesitate. We were so lucky! We’d like to thank Martin Chilcott of C and C Carpets for his encouragement. He told us how much his trade had grown since his move to Mantle Street and that convinced us that we were making the right decision.”
G J Jamieson may not be adding another independent retailer to the town’s shops but the move has definitely added vitality to the High Street – just in time for Christmas.
