Year 6 children at St John’s Primary School experienced an incredible residential at Barton Hall, Torquay this week.
Here is the school’s full report …
All children and staff had the opportunity to do a huge number of activities every day during the three-day residential, with non-stop entertainment from the fantastic PGL staff.
The time away started straight away when everyone got off the coach, with archery which included a game of shooting each other with large, rubber ended arrows.
They then went on to canoeing in the large pond on site … some very nearly fell out of their canoes but somehow managed to stay afloat. They all ended up very wet anyway as they climbed into the pond for a splash around!
Soggy children soon dried out as they explored the woods, used knives to make small weapons in case they had to stay in the woods overnight, and learned how to make different types of shelters.
The evening was filled with a delicious dinner and more outdoor games including orienteering around the grounds, which were now much cooler in temperature.
The not-so-tired children then retired to their bedrooms to munch on sweets with friends and play card games. They then joined the teachers who were having a corridor party with more sweets and crisps.
Eventually everyone settled down and enjoyed a few hours’ sleep as most were too excited for their next adventures!
Day two was another fun packed day using the indoor climbing wall, rifle shooting, abseiling and a fantastic game of laser tag which soon became very competitive among the blue and red teams.
Children then had further games in the evening which included some very creative drawings of their PGL leader, Tom!
Day three soon arrived after a much better night’s sleep and the children were ready to take part in aeroball – basketball on trampolines – and trying out the huge swing, which was enjoyed by all, including the big kids known as the teachers!
The whole experience was an absolute success, and all the children and staff had brilliant fun and would love to thank the staff at Barton Hall for making this a residential one that will never be forgotten.
Everyone who attended, returned to school with lots of memories, a few less socks and very sleepy heads.
