Stirabout band raising the roof

If you love a barn dance the marquee is up for Clayhidon’s biggest social event of the season – a midsummer party and barn dance this Saturday, 30 June. Wellington’s renowned Stirabout ceildih band are guaranteed to get people dancing. There’ll be a hog roast (with vegetarian option), a raffle with great prizes including a Cornish seaside holiday for five and a great family atmosphere

Everyone’s invited – whether they live in the Blackdowns parish or not. Under 11s get in free.  Entry for accompanied 11-16 year olds is £5. Adult tickets are £12 on the night or £10 in advance from Carolyn Bendle on 02823 681047 or email carouselle@btinternet.com.

The event is from 7pm to 11pm in a field next to Clayhidon Parish Hall and is to raise funds for the hall’s extension and improvement. Work is already under way on a new roof – thanks to a £25,000 grant from Viridor Credits – but the hall committee needs to raise at least another £60,000 to add new toilets and a parish archive to the former Victorian school room.
