Wellington Newsagents in Fore Street was targeted by thieves in the early hours of Friday 22 February.
One of the newsagents’ employees, Lorraine Thorne, said, “They broke through the front door and took money from the till. We don’t think anything else has been stolen. We believe the break-in happened about 3am this morning.”
The door through which the thieves gained access to the shop is being replaced.
“During the early hours of this morning Wellington Newsagents located on Fore Street, was broken into. Suspects smashed their way through the front door of the shop and took cash and cigarettes. If anyone is offered cigarettes for sale please be mindful where they might have come from. If anyone has any information about this burglary can they either contact myself or 101 quoting Niche 5219039180,” said PCSO Steve Hill.
Morning newspaper deliveries had to be cancelled and the shop was closed while police carried out investigations.
