Two former members of the ever-popular Thunderbridge Bluegrass Boys return to the Beambridge Hotel with a new band on October 11th, when they host another ‘Bluegrass Night’ with one of the UK’s best bands, The Down County Boys.
Nick Girone-Maddocks and Jules Bushell have continued to make music together since the demise of Thunderbridge at the end of last year, and they now are excited about their new project, ThreeBridgesThree with new recruit, fiddler Clare Mactaggart.
Nick said “The new band is quite different, and the fiddle adds a lovely extra element which is new for us. Whilst there’s always room in our set for some old Thunderbridge favourites, we’ve tried to add some other musical elements to what we do, including lots of new songs”
The Bluegrass Night is not to be missed – The Down County Boys are one of the longest-established bands in the UK, starting up in the early ’60s when the acoustic folk scene was thriving. Based in Leeds, they are thrilled to be playing at the Beambridge as part of their autumn UK tour. Mandolin player Dan Norton said “These Bluegrass Nights that Nick and Jules put on have always been great, and I’ve been to quite a few. To be playing at one is fantastic – they always pull in a great crowd and set up a really intimate and personal gig”. Those who came to Thunderbridge’s swansong gig at the Arts Centre in December may remember Dan – he was part of the opening act then with his partner Jacey.
Nick said “Playing live is in our blood, and we’ve missed it. We really can’t wait to get back on the road again after all this time. There’s loads more gigs lined up for the autmn around the region, but we’re really looking forward to the Bluegrass Night first”
