A Vigil for Peace is being staged in our town centre this Friday.
Organisers say: “On Hiroshima Day in August a number of us held a silent vigil in the centre of Wellington to commemorate those killed in Japan but also all those killed in war since then around the world.
“Wars continue to rage in countries including Sudan, Yemen, Ukraine, Gaza and Lebanon.
“Countries including the UK have nuclear weapons whose use would devastate our world.
“We can feel there is little we can do but we can start by standing together to show our commitment to a peaceful world and to remember those whose lives are lost or damaged by war.
“We can engage our politicians to work to remove our nuclear weapons and support those working for peace in different areas.
“All are invited to stand for peace at a vigil outside the Co-op in Fore Street on Friday between 1pm and 1.30pm and to meet with others at the Quaker Meeting House to share thoughts, reflections and ideas.”
