Wacky Wednesdays have developed a large and enthusiastic following in the town over the last few years as a perfect playdate for children from 0 to 11 during the school holidays. The latest Wacky Wednesday – on Wednesday 21 August at Cades Farm playground – was no exception and bright summer sunshine brought together crowds of children and their parents.
Organised by the Wellington One team led by Rockwell Green Christian Church’s Bob House various community groups provide the games and activities. Liverty, Reminiscence Learning, Wellington Town Councillors Mark Lithgow and Vivienne Stock-Williams, Everyone Active (the new managers of Wellington Sports Centre), Churches Together and Court Fields Pre Prep were amongst those involved and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service provided a vehicle for children to try on the role of firemen for a while. Bob House and his team cooked up a barbecue.
From 10.30 am to 12.0o children and toddlers could play outdoor games, splat rats, draw, make smoothies on a bike, crawl through hoops and hit targets – all for £1 – alongside their parents and carers. Bob said, “All proceeds are put back into the providing the activities for the children and we’re delighted that so many have turned up today.”
The last Wacky Wednesday of the school summer holiday is on Wednesday 28 August from 10.30am to 12.00 in Wellington Park.
