Wednesday 6 November is ‘Wear your Wellies for Wellington Monument Day!’ in aid of everyone’s favourite 3-sided monument. The day acknowledges the fact that it was the first Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, who popularised the boot, made initially from leather.
All you need to do to help with the fun fundraising is to wear your wellies to work or out shopping – or whatever you’re doing! Maybe use welly-wearing to take advantage of a lunchtime walk in the park – or a stroll to the Monument.
Pupils and teachers at Court Fields, Beech Grove and Rockwell Green schools have already signed up for a day in wellies.
Just pop pennies or pounds into a pot and send photos of smiling faces and happy feet to emma.jones1@nationaltrust.org.uk. Emma will collect any pennies and pounds raised from anywhere that has collected them!
All money raised will go into the Wellington Monument renovation fund.
Emma Jones, Community Fundraiser and Engagement Officer for the National Trust, will be in the centre of Wellington on 6 November – in decorated wellies – for any additional donations to the Monument fund which has £650,000 still to raise.
The Monument is currently being encased in scaffolding – eight miles of tubing and 3000 scaffolding planks – ready for masons to begin repairs on the stonework.
Tickets for the Monumental Sunflower Raffle – and its long list of generous prizes donated by local businesses – are on sale at Odette’s Tea Room, Nurtured by Nature and Rockwell Green Post Office.
