A team from Wellington School, Somerset were first home in the 35Km event at this year’s Ten Tors competition. The team was made up of six pupils, Will Mitchell (team captain), Henry Savage (Team 2ic), Will Thornton, Kiran Thakur, Sam Aird, Kieran Wachsmuth, with Alex Piper as reserve.
The boys set out in poor conditions on Saturday morning but had reached Tor 8 by the end of the day. An achievement only a handful of other teams managed. After camping out overnight the team had just 15Km to complete on Sunday and set out at 6am.
The boys reached Tor 10 just over two hours later and were walking over the finish line just before 0945 with proud parents watching on.
Team manager, Rich Clements, said ‘This was a first class effort by our team, who had been training for this event for 8 months. They faced some tough conditions but fortunately were well-prepared having spent many weekends working up to this event.’
