Three matches took place in the Weekend League at Wellington Bowling Club.
Two of them were one-sided with Woodpeckers and Southsiders winning by large margins against the unfortunate Allstars and Ninchers.
Meanwhile, fifth-placed New Rollers came through after a close battle against second-placed Skylarks.
Alan Mark’s Allstars began well. They picked up two shots in the first end but Sally Waygood, Ed Norris and skip Nick Channon’s Woodpeckers were in fine form.
They played so well that they didn’t give their opponents any more shots all through the game and won it in style, 16 shots to two.
Marguerite Nichols, Steve Horrill and Andy Pearce’s Southsiders were top of the league going into their match against Ninchers.
Vera White, Ray White and Simon Spalding’s Ninchers collected one shot in the fifth end, but that was all they could manage. Southsiders won all the ends except that one to take the match by storm, 20 shots to one.
Monica Carter, June Anderson and skip Arthur Carter’s Skylarks were up against Maria Mitchell, Diana Dagg and skip Tony Woollard’s New Rollers.
After eight ends and with just three to play, Skylarks led 6–4 and looked to have the winning of it but the Rollers got down to some serious bowling and picked up six shots to overtake and win it 10–7.
