Carnival cheques are handed over

Local organisations, schools and charities received cheques from Wellington Carnival Committee last night (Monday).

They all collected in last month’s parade and several of them also received certificates they won on the night.

The presentations took place at the Kings Arms Community Hub where those present were welcomed by Carnival Committee chairman, Paul Goodyer.

“On behalf of the whole committee, thank you for giving your time, energy and enthusiasm on carnival night.

“We know that your own organisations depend on volunteers, so we really appreciate you making time to support Wellington Carnival too.

“I’m delighted to announce that our final collection total for 2026 was £3,804.94.

“That is a wonderful amount, made possible by the generosity of everyone who donated and the efforts of our collectors. Every bucket carried, every smile and every thank you helped make a difference.

“As promised, each participating organisation receives 50% of the money their organisation collected for us.

“We are pleased that your efforts will help support the valuable work you do in our community, while also helping us keep Wellington Carnival going.

“Carnival costs around £10,000 each year to stage. It takes a huge amount of fundraising and voluntary work to bring this much-loved event to our streets, and your support plays an important part in making that possible.”

Paul praised the Carnival Committee members who had worked so hard to make the parade another success.

“I would also like to thank the local businesses who displayed collection buckets, everyone who donated, the marshals and volunteers who worked so hard behind the scenes.

“Tonight is an opportunity to celebrate what we have achieved together and to recognise the people who made it happen.

“Please pass on our sincere thanks to every member of your organisation who helped.

“We hope you will join us again for Wellington Carnival on Saturday, September 25th, 2027.

“Thank you once again for supporting our carnival, our town and our community. You should all be very proud of the difference you have made.”

Paul said the committee’s annual meeting takes place at the Kings Arms Community Hub on Monday, November 16th (7pm) and any new volunteers wishing to get involved would be more than welcome.

Cheques were then presented to those present.
