Wellington Cricket Club, who return to league action this weekend, have announced their overseas signing for 2025
The club say on their website: “Lakshan Edirisinghe is a proven and quality performer, currently playing first class cricket in Sri Lanka for Galle CC.
“He has a wealth of experience under his belt with over 150 first class games over all formats.
“Lakshan started his professional career at Sri Lanka Army Sports Club where he was a loyal servant for over ten years.
“He is one of those players who gets better with age which is evident as in the 2022-23 first class season, he scored 1,105 runs finishing with an average of 46.04 which included five centuries and three half-centuries.
During the List A season in that same year, he scored 483 runs with an average of 40.25, featuring five half-centuries. In 2023, he was selected by Dambulla Aura in the Sri Lanka Premier League.
“The elegant left-hander displays remarkable skill and composure at the crease and is comfortable facing any type of bowling, with a particular affinity for spin bowling.
“Lakshan knows his game well which enables him to play a key anchor role ensuring he produces a big score for his team.
“With his off-spinners, Lakshan proves to be a valuable asset. He can be relied upon to contain the opposition while building pressure leading to wickets.
“Lakshan will join up with the club this week and be available for selection for all games from Saturday

The club’s league season begins tomorrow (Saturday) with the 1st XI away to North Perrott, the 2nds at home to Middlezoy and the 3rds away to Staplegrove 2nds.
The firsts will be back in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League, having been relegated from the Bristol/Somerset Division last season.
