Lakshan Edirisinghe (pictured) and Sam Whitefield both scored centuries as in-form Wellington CC recorded another crushing victory at the Lloyd and Whyte Ground yesterday (Saturday).
They thrashed Taunton by 224 runs to stay third in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League. To see the latest table, CLICK HERE.
Electing to bat, the Red and Blacks piled up 345-6 in their 50 overs after being 55-3 at one point.
Edirisinghe and Whitefield then came together and shared a remarkable 245-run stand for the fourth wicket.
All-rounder Edirisinghe smashed 156 not out with five sixes and 20 fours while Whitefield hit 107 with 15 fours.
Taunton got off to the worst possible start as Toby Stirzaker had opener Harvey Coleman caught by Arron Campbell with only two runs on the board.
Another wicket went down at six, before Charlie O’Dea (29) and Solly Woodall (40) pulled things around with a third-wicket stand of 69.
But they then lost wickets regularly and were eventually all out for 121 in 29.4 overs. Campbell took 3-14, Edirisinghe 2-28 and Robbie Watts 2-8.
Wellington play away to North Perrott this Saturday and will be looking to keep up the pressure on the two sides above them.
