Delays expected on A38 after sewer collapse

Urgent repairs to a collapsed sewer near the Heatherton Grange junction mean delays are expected on the A38, starting tomorrow (Thursday).

Wellington Town Council reports: “We have been informed by Somerset Council that Wessex Water will be performing emergency sewer repair works on the A38 Wellington Road at the junction with Bradford Road and Silver Street.

“These works will be performed under 24-hour, two-way signals with closures on Bradford Road and Silver Street.

“This approach is required to minimise disruption to traffic on the A38, and the traffic signals will be manual controlled from 07:00 – 18:30 to manage any tidal traffic flows.

“The planned duration of the works and closure is from 30/07/26 and is expected to conclude on 08/08/26.

“This is a bus route and will affect public transportation in this area – they will be notified.

“Somerset Council appreciates that this is exceptionally short notice. However, due to the potential issues that could arise from the collapsed sewer, such as sinkholes and flooding, it is vital this is repaired as soon as possible.

“If you have any concerns, please contact Wessex Water on 0345 600 4 600.”
