Good luck to 15-year-old Freya Bird who is embarking on a charity walk from Bridgwater to Wellington tomorrow (Saturday), despite undergoing brain surgery.
Freya is taking on the challenge next month in memory of a school friend who sadly passed away recently, and all proceeds will go to Charlton Farm, part of Children’s Hospice South West.
She lives in Bridgwater and her dad, Mike, comes from Wellington where he runs the football club’s Ability Counts section.
Freya says on her fundraising page: “This challenge is especially meaningful to me.
“Over the past two years, I have undergone two major brain operations, so taking on a 20-mile walk certainly won’t be easy.
“However, I am determined to complete it and push myself for a cause that means so much to me.
“I chose this charity because I recently lost a very special close friend who was cared for at Charlton Farm. The love, support, and kindness they showed my friend and their family was truly incredible.
“Walking in their memory is my way of saying thank you while helping ensure other families continue to receive the same compassionate care during the most difficult times.
“This will be the furthest I’ve ever walked, and my dad, who is taking on this challenge alongside me, has never walked this far either!
“We know it will be tough, but every step will be worth it if it helps make a difference for Charlton Farm and the families they support.
