Plus aSaturday night really was the Last Waltz for the Thunderbridge Bluegrass Boys. Wellington Arts Association was packed to the rafters with fans desperate to farewell the band that has given so much pleasure to so many over the last eight years. Every one of the 100 tickets could have been sold four times over and the crowd loved every song.
To their huge credit the Boys avoided maudlin’ and gave a show-stooping performance. But there was always a slight edge of melancholy between the songs. As Nick said at the start of the gig “In a way I’m gutted to be up here in front of you.” In a way, many of us felt gutted to be there. But the music was fantastic, as always.
Fortunately band photographer Andy Jones of Shooting Pixels was on hand to capture the moment and he’s been kind enough to share some of the images from the performance.
A fantastic night of great music but also a sad night.
A big , big loss to the music scene, here and abroad. Will miss the boys greatly.
I wish I could have been there – I have been so proud of the boys over the years. Their harmonies and professionalism shine through, and every performance delivered with fun and laughter. Well done lads.
