Five weeks after it closed for a major refurbishment the town’s new self-service library has re-opened. During the Around Wellington visit users seemed to be coping well with the new system, with plenty of staff on hand to help.
As well as the automatic scanner machines in the foyer for borrowing and returning books, there have been major changes elsewhere in the building.
New shelving makes the rear of the library far lighter (largely due to a new ceiling with environmentally friendly light fittings) and more spacious.
New carpets and re-painted walls make the transformation complete. “It feels like the most successful of the half –dozen libraries that the county has tackled so far,” said a delighted member of the Somerset libraries staff.
Cllr David Hall, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for libraries, said: “Staff will be on hand to help people get to grips with the new technology.
“We’ve already successfully introduced self-service in nine of Somerset’s busiest libraries and I’m sure it will prove just as successful in Wellington.”
