Gideon Amos MP got on his bike at Chelston yesterday (Thursday) – and it was for a cause very close to his heart.
He visited Bluebird Care Taunton, Mid Devon, West Somerset & Sedgemoor to take part in their fundraising challenge to cycle 982 miles in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.
Mr Amos said: “I was delighted to get involved because the Bluebird team looked after my late mum who needed support, because of her MS, and because of my experience with other family members suffering from Alzheimer’s.
“It was a pleasure to show my support for their efforts and I hope people give generously to this wonderful charity which does such great work.”
Throughout September, World Alzheimer’s Month, the Bluebird Care team are taking on the distance on a static bike to represent the 982,000 people currently living with dementia in the UK.
They are aiming to raise vital funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society and anyone wishing to support them can donate via their fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/bluebird-taunton-cycle.
After cycling for the fundraiser, Bluebird offered Mr Amos a health and wellbeing check as part of its Care Assist scheme.
A spokesperson said: “The scheme enables Bluebird to complete essential health and wellbeing checks with ease, offering reassurance and support for customers in their homes, with the added benefit of reducing pressure on our NHS.
“We were pleased to find that Gideon was very well!”
The team will soon launch Mind & Motion, a free fortnightly session at the Kings Arms Community Hub in Wellington, open to all the local community (details in poster below).
Designed to boost both memory and motor skills, the sessions will offer practical support and connection for anyone who may benefit.
