Repair Café volunteers bring dozens of items back to life

Wellington Repair Café today (Saturday) more than proved its worth once more with dozens of items returned to working order by the team of skilled volunteer menders.

The range of possessions handed over to be repaired seemed greater than ever as the popularity and value of the cafè is recognised.

A tiny toy Darlek, a fine coffee machine, a collection of watches and clocks, a toaster, CD speakers, necklaces, clothes, phones and computers and a chair were among them while, outside, kitchen knives and scissors were sharpened.

At a time of rising household costs and with Christmas only a few weeks away, Wellington Repair Café – where repairs are carried out free of charge with donations welcome – has saved owners considerable amounts of money and the environment too from the consequences of disposal in landfill and incineration.

The Monumental Women of Wellington were present once again to serve refreshments – and also brought along their own home-made marmalade for sale.

The next Wellington Repair Café is on Saturday, 2nd January, in the Scout Hall, off Fore Street from 10am to 12.30pm
