Massive congratulations to local darts star Ryan Searle as he notched up the biggest win of his career so far to reach the quarter-finals of the world championship.
Ryan, who cut his teeth playing in the Wellington league, took on James Hurrell in the last 16 at Alexandra Palace last night (Monday).
Unseeded James had knocked fourth seed Stephen Bunting out of the competition but was no match for Ryan, ranked 20th, who continued his remarkable run in the tournament.
Again averaging over 100, he produced a stunning 4-0 whitewash and is yet to concede a set.
He said afterwards: “It felt like my experience showed in the end.
“Obviously not to lose a set is great.”
As for the rest of the tournament, Ryan said: “If I play my game that I know I can play, there’s no reason why I can’t go the whole way.
“If I didn’t believe that, and if the other players didn’t believe that, there’s no point in being here.”
Ryan now faces the winner of this afternoon’s match between number five seed Jonny Clayton and Andres Harrysson.
Already certain of his biggest purse so far, he is guaranteed at least £100,000 with the overall winner taking home £1 million.
