St Margaret’s Hospice is inviting dog lovers in Wellington to take part in its Walk 100 Miles with Your Dog challenge.
The fundraiser runs throughout January and is the perfect way to start the New Year with purpose, positivity, and a daily dose of fresh air.
Participants are challenged to walk 100 miles with their dog over the month while raising funds to support patients and families cared for by St Margaret’s.
Last year, Adeline from Taunton walked 100 miles with her great dane, Olive, raising an incredible £535 for the hospice.
Her mum Karla, who works as Therapy and Day Services Lead at St Margaret’s, said the challenge was the ideal way for her daughter to show her generous spirit.
“Adeline had wanted to do the New Year’s Day Dip, but she was too young. So, we found another way. She absolutely loved walking with Olive – even when they had to make up a few miles at the end!
“Adeline is always keen to help anyone, and to see the impact her fundraising has made is very special.”
The pair’s effort helped fund specialist hospice care for local people living with life-limiting illnesses – care which is provided free of charge but costs St Margaret’s around £15 million a year to provide.
“Adeline’s story captured so many hearts,” said Shauna Booker, Events Manager at St Margaret’s. “She showed that anyone – whatever their age – can make a difference.
“This January, we’re inviting dog owners across Somerset to follow in her footsteps, enjoy me outdoor with their pets, and help us continue providing compassionate care for people across our community.”
Participants can sign up for free and will receive a welcome pack in the post, including a handcrafted doggy bandana, a mileage tracker, and a sponsorship form.
They’ll also be guided through setting up an online fundraising page to share their story and gather support online.
