Wellington Football Club members and their friends and families turned out in force for the club’s annual Charity Night at the weekend, the third year it has been dedicated to the memory of former club Chairman and Manager Selwyn Aspin. Proceeds from the raffle are to go to St Margaret’s Hospice.
Youth team players featured in the evening’s Crossbar Challenge competition alongside mixed teams comprising players from Wellington Ladies and Wellington Legends. Selwyn Aspin’s sons, Graham and Stuart, both former 1st team players, were present. Graham is now the club’s Vice Chairman.
Wellington AFC is a thriving club now operating 5 senior men’s sides, a women’s section which competes in the Somerset County Women’s League, teams for boys from 8 to 18 and 4 separate teams for girls from 10 to 14.
The club’s main hall is at present undergoing refurbishment costing £30,000 which is to be completed by the end of the season in May.
