Springfield Road resident Gibby Swaine raised the issue of road safety in that part of Wellington at the recent town council meeting. “Every neighbour I’ve spoken to has stories of a near miss at the junction of Corams Lane and Springfield Rd,” Ms Swaine told councillors.
“There are no Give Way or Stop signs if you are travelling from the sports centre or rugby club, just some rather faded white lines on the road. Traffic coming off Waterloo Rd and down Corams Lane is often travelling way too fast. We need to limit speeds.”
Cllr Charles Biscoe was one of several councillors who agreed that the Highways Department need to be consulted on safety grounds. “I take my life in my hands cycling down there,” he said. “but we need to look at the whole issue of traffic speeds in that part of town, not just one road.”
