Transition Town Wellington’s environmentally valuable programme of activities in various locations over the coming days are as follows:
Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to12.30pm: Sunflowers Open Day
Location: Wellington Community Farm, The Basins
Wander around the lovely beds of multi-coloured sunflowers! Buy yourself some to take home; £5 a bunch- cash only. All proceeds go towards growing next year’s flowers.
Directions:
On Foot/Bike: Turn off Station Road into Corams Lane. Carry on past the left turn into the Sports Centre and take the lane straight ahead. Walk over the bridge between the two ponds, then turn left. The field gate is straight ahead, (NOT the allotments gate on the right)
By Car: If coming by car please park in the Sports Centre car park
Tuesday from 9am to 12noon: Scything at Longacre
In this session we will continue to cut the main meadow with scythes. There will be tasks for those who don’t want to scythe too, such as cutting back brambles and raking grass cuttings.

Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm and Wednesday from 10am to12noon: Raking at Swains Lane Nature Reserve
This summer the council are mowing the orchard, which is very kind of them before we hopefully get a scything team ready for next year! The only problem with using a mechanical mower is that if the grass is left to rot down it’s no good for the wildflowers! So we’re asking for your help to rake it up.
With a morning and an evening session you’ll be able to help even if you work 9-5. It’s a “green gym” whole body workout outside in the fresh air. You’ll be helping the nature reserve and it’s free!

Saturday, August 30th, from 2pm to 6pm: Fox’s Field Summer Picnic
This event will be especially great for families with teenage kids because there really is something for all ages. As well as the usual fun food tasting of products that are made from what is growing, children’s games and a tour with talk about the forest garden, we have some special guests!
Beth Allen, a local mixologist, will be running cocktail-making workshops using fruit and foraged ingredients you can find in the forest garden!
Plus time to shake more than just your drinks! Kit Sells is a local DJ and street dance teacher, and will be teaching how to look good on the dance floor.
And have you ever wondered just how beatboxers make music with their mouth? Ever wanted to try it yourself? R’Ocean will be teaching the basics so you can impress your friends with your new skills.
All this in the beautiful forest garden being created by Transition Town Wellington. Come and have a look round and see what you can forage for free with a tour of the herbs, fruit and nut trees that grow there.

The next Wellington Repair Cafe will be held on Saturday, September 6th, at the Scout Hall, Fore Street TA21 8AQ, from 10am to 12.30pm.
Trades available: Electrics, sewing/textiles, sharpening, jewellery repair, clocks, computers, general mending. If you are bringing something that needs a new zip, you need to bring the new zip with you! If any sewing job needs something to be unpicked first, it would also help if you can do that at home rather than leaving it to the sewing ladies, as it takes a long time and means that they can mend fewer items in the time available.
