There was a magnificent turnout for our Remembrance parade, service and wreath laying this afternoon.
The parade left Wellington School on the dot of three, headed by the school’s CCF Corps of Drums and including representatives of different organisations and youth groups.
They included Wellington Majorettes, who have just returned to entertain the community after an 18-month Covid-enforced break.
The parade made its way through streets lined with people and to the park where several hundred had gathered.
The poignant service included readings, hymns and an address by the Rev Martin Kirkbride, Interim Team Rector of Wellington Anglican Team Churches.
During the wreath laying, the names of the Fallen were read from our town’s Book of Remembrance by Mr Michael Rose, President of the Royal British Legion’s Wellington branch.
Among those reading prayers were two pupils from St John’s Primary School and, in closing the service, Mr Rose paid tribute to the many children who had taken part.
He also thanked those present for turning out in such great numbers and praised everyone who had contributed to the wonderful poppy displays in the town centre.
