Wellington CC’s winning run in the West of England League’s Somerset Division stretched to five games in dramatic fashion at Yeovil this afternoon (Saturday).
Needing 208 to win, they were reduced to 183-9 but last pair Andy Hurry and Toby Stirzaker guided them to a thrilling last-over victory and another 20-point haul.
Yeovil won the toss and elected to bat, making 207 all out in 48.5 overs, thanks mainly to 49 from number four bat Dan Ewens.
Skipper Arron Campbell took 3-27 for Wellington while there were two wickets apiece for Stirzaker, Hurry and Nathan Yarde.
In reply, George Ruell (16) and Luke Desave (34) shared an opening partnership of 44 to give the visitors a solid base on which to build.
But they lost wickets at regular intervals and were 155-6 – 53 runs short of their target, with 12 overs remaining.
Three more wickets fell to bring last man Stirzaker to the crease with Hurry but the pair chipped away to need four off the final over – reaching their target with just two balls to spare.
