Village children bring Christmas to life

As in school communities large and small throughout the country, the children of Sampford Arundel Primary School prepared to tell the story of Christmas in the parish hall this week. And what could be more appropriate than a class of four to seven-year-olds presenting ‘The Best Gift of All’ – their version of the traditional Bethlehem narrative – in the heart of a village set amongst cold winter fields and farm yards?

Class One, under the attentive direction of Senior Teacher Mrs J Major, in simple, improvised costumes and with beguiling innocence played out the journey to Bethlehem once again. No doubt the audience of parents and grandparents recalled playing their own parts in nativities long ago and enjoyed seeing the tradition maintained. Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without it.
